What Cloudflare actually does
Cloudflare filters traffic before it reaches you, with DDoS protection (stopping floods of fake traffic meant to knock a site offline), a web application firewall and bot management. Cloudflare One adds Zero Trust access, which checks every user and device before letting them reach a company app, without a VPN.
Best fit when
Businesses with a public website or customer portal, and teams with remote or hybrid staff who still rely on a VPN.
Look elsewhere when
Your main worry is an attacker moving between servers inside your network. We would suggest Illumio.
